Migraine is a chronic disease with episodic manifestations that can progress in a particular group of patients to a more frequent (15 or more days per month) and disabling form. This process occurs at a rate of about 3% per year and is called chronic migraine. The risk factors that lead to this process of transformation of episodic migraine into a chronic illness is an important issue in such patients. We performed a systematic review by the United States National Library of Medicine (PUBMED) using the terms "chronic migraine" and selected from among those that were pertinent to the study of risk factors for the occurrence of chronic migraine.
